LADBS runs the ADU Standard Plan Program with approved standard plans posted on dbs.lacity.gov; the fetched YOU-ADU page is a city-approved, free 455 sf 1-story 1BR plan with downloadable plan documents, and site-restricted search enumerates additional approved-plan pages (Cottage, Abodu, neXt Dwelling ADU66 and ADU67, Taalman Architecture IT House); plans are privately designed and submitted by third-party designers, then approved and listed by LADBS.

The catalog/listing page (dbs.lacity.gov/adu/approved-standard-plans) returns 403 'please Sign In' to all fetchers tried (direct + proxy), so the total plan count could not be verified - plansCount left null rather than citing the commonly reported dozens. Posted classification rests on the successfully fetched YOU-ADU approved-plan page on the agency's own domain plus at least 6 distinct approved-plan pages enumerated via site:dbs.lacity.gov search. Adversarially re-verified 2026-07-30: YOU-ADU page independently re-fetched and fully rendered (455 sf 1-story 1bd, status 'Approved', free, downloadable Approved Standard Plan PDF + submittal checklist, four configuration styles); catalog page re-tried direct and via reader proxy, still 403, so the count stays null.
Any other agency can adopt these plans
Cal. Gov. Code § 65852.27, added by Stats. 2023, ch. 759, amended by Stats. 2024, ch. 7 (SB 477) (§ 65852.27(a)(5)) lets any California local agency admit into its own program plans “A local agency may also admit the following accessory dwelling unit plans into the program: (A) Plans that have been developed and preapproved by the local agency. (B) Plans that have been preapproved by other agencies within the state.” A city or county without a preapproval program of its own can post City of Los Angeles’s plans as part of its own program instead of designing new ones — see the full statewide catalog for more options.
